First Day of School

On Wednesday, January 30th, Jake and Josh started attending Red Hawk Ridge Elementary School. This was a very exciting day in our house - one the boys had been counting down to since we had decided to enroll them into public school. To be honest - I am not sure if they were excited about school or the things that go with school. Backpacks (Thank You Grandma Dee) were very crucial in getting ready for school, as well as many conversations on hot lunch. Once Jacob heard that there is a back up choice of peanut butter and jelly everyday he decided to get on board.

Tuesday evening I was starting to get a little anxious - you know - babies going off to school and the whole bit. I had tons of thoughts racing through my head as I went off to sleep. Brian and I had set our alarm for 6am thinking that would get us up and out the door in plenty of time. Apparently the boys thought otherwise because they were up and going long before the first beep of our alarm.

As Brian hit the snooze button we could hear them up and about and already well into the day. After a little question and answer time we got the whole story.

Joshua woke up first (at 5:22, a detail that he did not want left out of the story). As he started going about his day - Jacob was pretty quick to join him (at, "about" 5:37). By the time we put our robes on and made it downstairs the boys had made and consumed breakfast, put the dishes into the dishwasher, brushed their teeth, dressed, lined up their jackets, hats, backpacks and were standing at the door discussing if they should take Elmo (the dog we were puppy sitting) outside for a walk. It was this conversation we overheard as our alarm went off. They were reasoning amongst themselves on whether they should take Elmo outside to do his business. They argued both sides, how they had committed to walking the dog but took into consideration how, since Mom and Dad were in bed asleep they did not have the freedom to unlock the door. Both guys decide they should wait. It was at this point that I looked at Brian and said, "I think they are ready for school."

Awesome way to start the first day.
